8U Coach Pitch (Baseball) · ages 7-8

Saturday's 8U Coach Pitch (Baseball) practice. Already planned.

56 minutes, 6 drills, timed and in order. Built for ages 7-8 — not a one-size-fits-all PDF. It's free. Print it and go coach.

Every drill below has the setup, the reps, the timing, and the video it came from.

Timed 60-minute practice plan
0:00 Skill-Building Warm-Up (no overhand throwing)
Raises body temperature and re-installs the previous practice's cue before fatigue sets in - without any arm stress.
8 min
0:08 Four Corners
Catch-transfer-throw as one motion instead of three, plus throwing to a moving target and calling for the ball. Little League describes 'footwork as the drill's focus, while adding in both fielding and throwing.'
8 min
0:16 Four-Cone Ground Balls (20-Foot Grounders)
Attacking the ball rather than waiting on it. Baseball Positive's cues are 'Fast, Slow, Fast' for the approach and 'Go Get the Ball.'
10 min
0:26 Pop Quiz (Fly Balls at Position)
Catching fly balls from an actual position rather than in a generic line - so the kid learns what a fly ball looks like from shortstop versus from right field.
8 min
0:34 Soft Toss Slugging
Hand-eye coordination, stance, swing path and bat control against a moving ball. Little League's mechanics: tosser kneels on the opposite side of the hitter's stance, hitter wears a helmet, underhand toss, hitter drives the ball.

0:46 Run Through First (Base Race)
Running THROUGH first base at full speed, arm swing, and base-touch technique.

A clean one-page sheet — the running clock, every drill, what it fixes, and the full gear list, with a box to tick off as you go. No videos, no phone, works on a clipboard.

Every card below was written from a YouTube link in about 30 seconds.

That is the whole product. You find a drill at 10pm, paste the link, and get a coach-ready card like these. Keep them in one locker, and three to five of them build next week's plan.

Warm-up · 8 min · 3 groups of 4

Skill-Building Warm-Up (no overhand throwing)

Raises body temperature and re-installs the previous practice's cue before fatigue sets in - without any arm stress.

Fixes: The cold-arm first throw. 7-8 year olds arrive cold and immediately want to air it out.

Throwing · 8 min · 4-8 (one or two per corner). Start at 20 ft.

Four Corners

Catch-transfer-throw as one motion instead of three, plus throwing to a moving target and calling for the ball. Little League describes 'footwork as the drill's focus, while adding in both fielding and throwing.'

Fixes: Catching flat-footed and then re-setting before throwing. Baseball Positive's parallel cue is 'Move Feet to Catch.'

Four-Cone Ground Balls (20-Foot Grounders)

Attacking the ball rather than waiting on it. Baseball Positive's cues are 'Fast, Slow, Fast' for the approach and 'Go Get the Ball.'

Fixes: The passive 8U fielder who lets the ball play them and takes it off the chest.

Pop Quiz (Fly Balls at Position)

Catching fly balls from an actual position rather than in a generic line - so the kid learns what a fly ball looks like from shortstop versus from right field.

Fixes: Turning the head away and covering up. Also the drift-in-on-everything habit.

Hitting · 12 min · 2-4 per net, rounds of ~8 swings

Soft Toss Slugging

Hand-eye coordination, stance, swing path and bat control against a moving ball. Little League's mechanics: tosser kneels on the opposite side of the hitter's stance, hitter wears a helmet, underhand toss, hitter drives the ball.

Fixes: A swing built entirely against a stationary tee that falls apart the moment the ball moves.

Baserunning · 10 min · Whole team in 2 lines, timed head-to-head

Run Through First (Base Race)

Running THROUGH first base at full speed, arm swing, and base-touch technique.

Fixes: Slowing down before the bag - the most common and most costly 8U baserunning error, and one that gives away outs in every single game.
