Saturday's 10U Softball practice. Already planned.

60 minutes, 6 drills, timed and in order. Built for ages 9-10 — not a one-size-fits-all PDF. It's free. Print it and go coach.

Every drill below has the setup, the reps, the timing, and the video it came from.

Timed 60-minute practice plan
0:00 Full RAMP Dynamic Warm-Up (with rotator cuff block)
Raise: graded jog 50/60/70/75%, forward and backward skips, high-knee and butt-kick pulses, lateral slide, carioca, lateral jump-to-stick. Mobilize: Spiderman, forward lunge with rotation, single-leg RDL, sumo squats, glute sweeps, lateral lunge. Upper body: bear crawl or plank shoulder taps, arm circles, arm mixer, pike arches, rotator cuff internal/external rotation at 90/90 with 2-3 second holds, wrist extension/flexion.
8 min
0:08 Four Corner Drill into Long Toss Ladder
Catch-to-throw footwork around the bases with a live target at every corner, then a distance ladder: 'play catch moving a step further away from their partner after each throw, until they are able to still throw the ball in a line using correct mechanics.' 20 throws.
9 min
0:17 Everyday Drills - Glove Work
A six-step daily progression from a collegiate program. 1) No glove on knees: roll right at you, backhand, forehand. 2) Glove on knees: same three. 3) Glove on knees: SHORT HOPS right at you, backhand, forehand. 4) Glove standing: rolls. 5) Glove standing: short hops. 6) Glove standing: 'Loopies.'
12 min
0:29 Outfield Progression (4 Cones) into Behind the Ball
Four cones: a front cone as the start, with cones 10-15 ft left, right and directly behind. Coach throws to each cone, working footwork and catching technique. Then Behind the Ball: on 'go' the player drop-steps about three steps, coach throws a short pop fly at the cone, player builds momentum through the catch and throws to a cutoff 20 ft away. Crow hop: push off the glove-side foot, lift the throwing-side knee to the chest, stride foot hits, throw - do not jump straight up.
9 min
0:38 Hitting Everydays (One-Arms, Insider Bat, Stop-at-Contact Front Toss)
On a knee: one-arm swings with a baby bat, top hand then bottom hand. On a knee: insider bat with tennis balls. In the cage: up-middle tee, then front toss with a stop at contact.
14 min
0:52 5-on-5 Bunt-Only Game
Short game plus all-out running to first under real competitive pressure. Girls may only bunt to get on base; coach pitches. As the contributing coach puts it: 'Runners really have to work hard to get down the line and fielders have to work hard to eliminate mistakes.'

Each one, coach-ready

Warm-up · 8 min · Whole team over a 15-20 m length

Full RAMP Dynamic Warm-Up (with rotator cuff block)

Raise: graded jog 50/60/70/75%, forward and backward skips, high-knee and butt-kick pulses, lateral slide, carioca, lateral jump-to-stick. Mobilize: Spiderman, forward lunge with rotation, single-leg RDL, sumo squats, glute sweeps, lateral lunge. Upper body: bear crawl or plank shoulder taps, arm circles, arm mixer, pike arches, rotator cuff internal/external rotation at 90/90 with 2-3 second holds, wrist extension/flexion.

Fixes: The 1990s jog-and-static-stretch that still dominates rec practice and does nothing for a windmill shoulder.

Four Corner Drill into Long Toss Ladder

Catch-to-throw footwork around the bases with a live target at every corner, then a distance ladder: 'play catch moving a step further away from their partner after each throw, until they are able to still throw the ball in a line using correct mechanics.' 20 throws.

Fixes: Catching flat-footed and then re-setting before throwing, plus mechanics that break down silently at distance.

Fixes: Hard hands, stabbing, and flinching on the short hop.

Outfield Progression (4 Cones) into Behind the Ball

Four cones: a front cone as the start, with cones 10-15 ft left, right and directly behind. Coach throws to each cone, working footwork and catching technique. Then Behind the Ball: on 'go' the player drop-steps about three steps, coach throws a short pop fly at the cone, player builds momentum through the catch and throws to a cutoff 20 ft away. Crow hop: push off the glove-side foot, lift the throwing-side knee to the chest, stride foot hits, throw - do not jump straight up.

Fixes: The source states it bluntly: 'FIRST STEP IS ALWAYS BACK. This rule is broken time after time. You can always come in if you mis-judge, the opposite rarely holds true.' Also: 'Tuck glove and pump arms just like a normal sprint. DO NOT RUN WITH GLOVE IN THE AIR.'

On a knee: one-arm swings with a baby bat, top hand then bottom hand. On a knee: insider bat with tennis balls. In the cage: up-middle tee, then front toss with a stop at contact.

Fixes: Casting and the long swing (fixed by one-arm work), and pulling off the ball (fixed by stop-at-contact front toss).

Baserunning · 8 min · Whole team (catcher, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B per side)

5-on-5 Bunt-Only Game

Short game plus all-out running to first under real competitive pressure. Girls may only bunt to get on base; coach pitches. As the contributing coach puts it: 'Runners really have to work hard to get down the line and fielders have to work hard to eliminate mistakes.'

Fixes: Jogging out of the box, and infielders who have never fielded a live bunt at speed - the play that decides most 10U games.
