Prep
- Have players form a circle, standing about 3 feet apart.
- Give one player a ball.
Run
- All players place their throwing hand behind their back and get into a ready position, on the balls of their feet with knees slightly bent.
- On your call, the player with the ball quickly flips it to a teammate in the circle.
- The receiver catches the ball, places their throwing hand behind their back, and gets into ready position.
- The receiver then quickly flips the ball to another teammate.
- If a player drops the ball, they are 'out' and step out of the circle.
- The last player standing wins the round.
- Play several rounds, rotating players as needed.
Say
- Hands behind your back!
- Balls of your feet!
- Knees bent!
- Flip it quick!
- Aim for knee height!
- Soft hands!
Watch for
- Players not having their throwing hand behind their back.
- Players standing flat-footed.
- Flipping the ball too high or too low, making it hard to catch.
- Dropping the ball due to hard hands or poor exchange.
Harder / easier
- Easier: Use a larger, softer ball (like a tennis ball or foam ball). Allow players to use two hands for the flip initially.
- Harder: Increase the distance between players. Require players to make an underhand or backhand flip only.
